Logbook of a whaling voyage to the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and the Sea of Okhotsk. Includes descriptions of whales seen or taken, illnesses, desertions, accidents, shipboard medicine, death at sea, an encounter with a shipwreck, rescues at sea, stowaways, and punishments. Also contains illustrations, accounts, a crew list, inventories of oil and bone, and a list of provisions. One man fell from aloft on 25 January 1854 and was never found. One man drowned on August 17, 1854. The Washington (Ship) was stove by ice on 9 July 1855, and 5 of the crew joined the Mary Frazier. There was an outbreak of scurvy on November 23, 1855. One man died of consumption on December 3, 1855. The crew discovered a stowaway on January 29, 1856. Other places represented include Kawahae Bay (Hawaii) and Mataiva (Rangiroa). Whaling grounds include the Japan, Okhotsk, On the Line, Hawaii, Tuamotus, and Charleston grounds.; Old Dartmouth Historical Society (ODHS 295); Whaling vessel, out of New Bedford, Mass., mastered by James S.
